Meet Trailblazer Daniela Rose

Today we’d like to introduce you to Daniela Rose.

Thanks for sharing your story with us Daniela. So, let’s start at the beginning and we can move on from there.
I was always fascinated with performing arts and being in front of the camera, throughout my schooling life I thrived in all art related subjects. Unfortunately, acting/modelling wasn’t perceived as a “real career” while I was finishing school, so I decided to study Event Management and started my career in the corporate environment.

Although I had managed to establish a successful career in corporate events, I was always drawn back to my love for modelling and acting. After severely burning out in the corporate environment and some encouragement from friends and family, I decided to revisit my love for acting and being in front of the camera.

In 2011, I signed to BELLA Management and have since had the opportunity to work for brands across print, runway, TV and digital marketing. After signing with a US agency and being granted an O1 Visa, I made the move to Los Angeles, California in June 2018.

Great, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome? Any advice for newcomers?
Everyone’s path to success in this industry is so different, there really is no cookie cutter approach.

For someone that came from a full-time corporate position, one of the most difficult things has been adjusting to the inconsistency in my daily schedule and income. It’s the nature of the beast! I have established a daily routine which helps keep me focused and motivated, this includes meditation, movement, nutritious food and time outdoors.

Throughout my journey of being a full time creative, I’ve discovered that there is a common misconception that your agent is solely responsible for getting you work. While they do have access to exclusive opportunities, you as a creative have the power to network and collaborate with likeminded individuals to create material that your agent can use to better represent you. e.g. Headshots, test shoot,  show reel, script reads, YouTube blog etc. First impressions count, so make sure you’re happy with how you’re being represented and the quality of work that’s being presented to potential clients.

Be clear about what it is you’re wanting to achieve and what your boundaries are from an early stage. Don’t compare yourself to others, your own unique qualities are what set you apart from others. Play to your strengths and be willing to let go of things that no longer serve a purpose. In an industry where everyone is selling “the dream”, trust your gut and don’t be afraid to question something if it doesn’t feel right.

Surround yourself with other individuals who want to see you succeed and invest time in nurturing meaningful relationships, this includes face to face interactions. If you feel emotionally drained after spending time with a certain group or individual, it’s ok to reconsider the amount of energy you’re investing in that relationship. If you admire someone else’s work, don’t be afraid to reach out and let them know just how much it means to you, often it means just as much to them.

I strongly believe in making friends outside of the field you work in. I find that conversations won’t always be work related and they often have a different perspective on a situation you may be facing.

Please tell us more about your work, what you are currently focused on and most proud of.
I have a vested interest in health, nutrition, and mental health. I truly believe in the power of a well-told story and use my social media platforms to promote the message of wellbeing and positive body image through personal experiences.

In early 2017, I launched Off Duty Models a YouTube channel featuring fellow models sharing their journey in the industry, including life hacks, their experience with social media, mental health, etc.

I also recently launched #myonetake

I’ve realized that it’s the moments in between working towards your major goals, that are often the most memorable and spark the most joy. In these past nine months while living abroad, my focus has shifted to finding a little bit of magic in the day to day things, all while living within my means.

Instagram has become a bit of a drag these last couple of months. While clearing out my phone, I realized that I had 214 takes for one photo, which I ended up posting on Instagram. Ridiculous I know! But it’s the “reality” for most individuals and photos on this platform.

In the 200 days leading up to my 30th Birthday, I will be sharing the day to day things that I do to spark joy in my life. Some will be extraordinary… others will be pretty darn ordinary. Here’s the catch, I only get one take to capture the moment! So, you can expect to see a varying degree of hilarious and not so flattering images, including eyes closed, double chins and god knows what else!

I only get one take at this life! So, here’s to:
– Embracing it fully.
– Finding a little magic on a daily basis.
– Understanding that it’s not always going to be pretty.
– Taking away the pressure of producing a “perfect” image for the gram.
– Last but not least, trying a couple of out of the box activities before the big 30!

So much of the media coverage is focused on the challenges facing women today, but what about the opportunities? Do you feel there are any opportunities that women are particularly well positioned for?
Social media has given everyone the opportunity to have a voice. We live in a day and age where most of us have the opportunity to discuss our thoughts openly and freely, and it seems that there is no topic that is off limits. We have the opportunity to set the precedent for future generations. When women come together for good, we really are an unstoppable force. How are you using your voice?
